A Deathmetal Band... Named Obituary

Obituary is one of the pioneer bands of deathmetal genre. Founded as an executioner in Seffner, Florida during 1984. They soon dropped the "E" from their name because another band with the same name, became Xecutioner. At the time the band consisted of John Tardy (vocals), Allen West (lead guitar), Trevor Peres (guitar), Jerome Grable (bass) & Donald Tardy (drums). The band released a demo in 1985, 1986, and 1987, demo 1985 as an executioner and Xecutioner 1986 and 1987 as a demo. They made their debut on vinyl in 1987 with two songs ("Find the Arise" & "Like the Dead") on the Raging Death compilation. Shortly after the release Grable replaced by bassist Daniel Tucker. Shortly before the release of the first album the following year, Slowly We Rot, they changed their name to Obituary. The band still remains a part of the influential death metal movement that emerged in Florida in the late 1980s. Obituary listed by Nielsen SoundScan as the band's fifth best-selling death metal album of all time and has sold 368,185 copies;.  1992, they released the End Complete has sold over 103,378 copies in the United States alone

After the 1997 Return from the Dead album, the band was already tired of touring, which led to the dissolution of the band. During the hiatus, Donald Tardy played in Andrew WK's touring band (during WK ​​appearance on Saturday Night Live Tardy Obituary shirt). Allen West focused on two projects, less educated and Six Feet Under while not playing in Obituary. Trevor Peres formed in 2001 disaster, which released one album, Cleansing, in the same year. Obituary reformed in 2003 and Disasters continue to exist alongside reformed Obituary. A reunion album, Frozen in Time, was released in 2005. The band's first live DVD, Frozen Alive, was released in January 2007.

Obituary is currently signed with Candlelight Records for the next two albums, Back Xecutioner s (2007) and Darkest Days (2009), and EP Left to Die (2008). A concert DVD release also announced for January 2010.  Since April 2010, according to frontman John Tardy, Obituary have begun working on new material for their next album.  This will be the first album not to be recorded with the Obituary bassist Frank Watkins long since their 1989 debut Slowly We Rot.
