Sam Rivers Bass Gear, Biography and Career

Sam Rivers was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1977 and is the bass player and one of the founding members of the nĂ¼-metal band Limp Bizkit.

Rivers started his musical career playing tuba in Arlington Middle School, but he actually got into music because of his cousin John Otto, who played jazz-style drums (and would later join LB). He attended Bishop Kenny High School, and later The Douglas Anderson School Of The Arts. He played guitar before he played bass, but switched at the suggestion of his music teacher.

Rivers first met LB vocalist Fred Durst while working at a fast food restaurant in Jacksonville. The two started talking and found they shared several interests, including skateboarding and music. They decided to get together for a jam session and, along with several other people, they formed a shortlived band called Malachi Sage. When that band did not work out, the two decided to try again, this time with John Otto on drums. In 1994 the three formed Limp Bizkit. They soon added guitarist Wes Borland and DJ Lethal.

Limp Bizkit's 1997 debut album, "Three Dollar Bill Y'All" sold 650,000 copies in the first week of release, entered the Billboard charts at number one and ended up selling over 6 million copies in the United States alone. The rest, as they say, is history...

In 2000 Rivers received the Orville H. Gibson Award for Best Male Bassist. The award honors musicians who reflect a spirit of quality, prestige and innovation. When Rivers went up to the podium to accept his award, he said, "I really don't know what to say, I'm pretty shocked and I think the judges are pretty crazy."

Over the past eight years Rivers has been producing local bands in Jacksonville, including Burn Season, The Embraced and the Orlando-based band Indorphine. On February 12, 2009 the original line-up of Fred Durst, Wes Borland, Sam Rivers, John Otto and DJ Lethal got back together, ending an eight year hiatus to bring their world back to ours. This time around Sam is rocking not only Warwick basses, but also Warwick amps!
